  • Time Out Youth’s ASCEND Gala is the Charlotte region’s signature event celebrating LGBTQ youth.

    This event is the nonprofit’s biggest fundraising event of the year. With your support, the Center will continue to meet the needs of our youth. Every day we see the smiles on faces, the spark of imagination, the anger at injustice, and the determination to make the world a better place.
  • The day before Ukraine was invaded in February, The Kyiv City Ballet unknowingly took one of the last flights out of Kyiv. The company flew to Paris to begin a long planned tour. They have not returned home. The country of France sheltered them and the company has been performing throughout France, and now Europe, since the invasion began. We are excited to be part of their US premiere tour this fall. The company will be performing a mixed repertoire program ‘Tribute to Peace” that they have choreographed while in France. Two of Ukraine’s prima ballerinas: Krystina Kadashevych and Oksana Bondarenko will perform with the company on their US tour.
  • The Lake Norman Orchestra returns for an outdoor afternoon concert featuring pianist Julie Jones on George Gershwin’s "Rhapsody in Blue." Selections include medleys of songs by The Beatles and The Alan Parsons Project, classical favorites including “Music from ‘Firebird,’” “Light Cavalry Overture,” and “Prelude to Carmen.” Also featured are selections from films and Broadway such as “Phantom of the Opera,” “The Magnificent Seven,” and “The Empire Strikes Back Medley.”
    Enjoy a beautiful afternoon in the mountains with delicious food and wine available for purchase. This concert offers a wide variety of music and a memorable experience for music lovers of all ages. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for comfort.

  • The Lake Norman Orchestra proudly presents a free concert at the beautiful St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Davidson, NC. Since 2002, the 35-member full orchestra has been providing quality music and opportunities for community member musicians to perform. Their conductor, Mr. Samuel A. Kyzer, leads the "all volunteer" group in performing a wide variety of music including classical favorites, pop favorites, and music from film and theater. Selections to be performed at this event include:

    Mrs. Stephanie Holly is our vocal soloist on three selections and Mrs. Karen Franks will be our soloist on the Flute concerto.

    Get ready for a FREE Holiday Concert that will knock your “Grinch” socks right off!

    The Charlotte Singers will showcase familiar carols with new and fresh arrangements, along with a carol sung partly in Spanish and a couple of songs even the most avid Christmas music fans may never have heard. The first performance is on Sunday, December 10 at 4:00 PM at Providence Presbyterian Church’s Christian Life Center. The address is: 10140 Providence Church Lane, Charlotte NC, 28277. A second performance will be held on Sunday, December 17, again at 4:00 PM, this time at Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Rd, Charlotte, NC. 28210.

    The Charlotte Singers are a group of 70 singers, ranging in age from 15 to 80+, led by the indomitable and super-talented Helen McCorkle Finch. The choral voices will be accompanied by Mrs. McCorkle Finch on piano, the many and varied percussion talents of Scott Rauschenberg, the flute stylings of Sue Demick, violin virtuosos Albert Dulin and Ed Wielunski, plus the bright sounds of Ken Edmonds and Kyle Gavagan on trumpet. Jill Fung will bring tears to your eyes with her cello, and the Pineville-Charlotte Ringers will make you smile with their beautiful handbell skills, led by Glenn Luetkemeier. Come to a wonderful concert and then go out for Sunday dinner! What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in December!

    The Charlotte singers have been around since 2015, when Helen founded the group with just 7 members. Our numbers have rebounded since the end of the pandemic, and we continue to grow our way to the 100 singers that Helen would love to direct! We welcome everyone! There is a small fee required to cover operating costs. Interested singers should contact Helen McCorkle Finch about attending a rehearsal and/or joining us.

    Mrs. McCorkle Finch was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina. She received her Bachelor's Degree in piano at Furman University, and earned her Master's Degree in piano from LSU and Georgia State University. Mrs. McCorkle Finch’s experience includes playing with world renowned bass singer Jerome Hines of the Metropolitan Opera, as well as having founded the Park City Singers, a 100-member choral group, in Park City, Utah.

  • Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. will host her annual State of the District address to provide updates on how key legislative initiatives will impact residents of Congressional district NC-12. There will be two separate events – one for residents of Cabarrus County and one for residents of Mecklenburg County. Registration is required and questions can be submitted in advance by completing the registration form at www.adams.house.gov. Both events are open to the press and will be followed by press conferences. Time permitting, reporters may seek 1:1 interviews with Rep.   • Re]Build the Roost is an uplifting community event in Charlotte, where neighbors come together to celebrate the work of Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte (RTGC), build birdhouses, and raise money for our cause. RTGC is a non-profit that provides critical home repairs to low-income Charlotte homeowners to increase s their health outcomes and help underserved communities build generational wealth. Additionally, it helps to prevent homelessness, displacement, and gentrification.

    Birdhouse Build:
    Event attendees will have the opportunity to build birdhouses to take home. The birdhouse build is an additional $20 to the event ticket.

    Silent Auction Details:
    We will host a silent auction where event sponsors, RTGC supporters, volunteers and homeowners, and the public will be invited to bid on exciting items and professionally designed birdhouses from local artists.
  • Presenting the 3rd Annual HEARTS Circle Members' Gala on September 7, 2024, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. This event is free for all HEARTS Circle members. Join us for an unforgettable evening at Cedar Grove. The event will feature a private house concert by the acclaimed singer/songwriter Kyshona. She is currently on tour for the release of her newest album, "Legacy," and her singing and storytelling were meant for HEARTS.
    Doors open at 6:00, and a Southern gourmet farm-to-table dinner by the Carolina Farm Trust will be served following Kyshona's performance. Guests will have the opportunity to explore Cedar Grove's private second floor and attic.
  • The Charlotte Chamber Choir presents Missa Papae Marcelli, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s monumental Renaissance masterwork, which legend says saved polyphony for all time, in its entirety.

    Accompanying this immortal masterpiece are five select movements of later Masses from the Renaissance to the 20th century, moving in reverse liturgical order - from Agnus Dei to Kyrie - and backward through time. These selections invite listeners to experience the echo of Palestrina’s influence through centuries of great composers and evolving musical languages.

    Concerts take place March 14 at Providence United Methodist Church and March 15 at Myers Park Baptist Church, both at 3:30 PM. Tickets are $20, with $5 tickets available for students.   • The Lake Norman Orchestra returns to beautiful Laurel Gray Vineyards in Hamptonville, NC for a Halloween-theme concert on Sunday, October 27 at 2 PM. The 50-member all-volunteer orchestra rehearses each Monday in Mooresville and has prepared a program with a wide variety of styles. Selections include "Radetzky March," "Thriller," "Themes from Scooby Doo, Ghostbusters, and The Monster Mash," "Frankenstein," "Selections from Phantom of the Opera," "Witchy Woman," "Selections from West Side Story" and "Halloween Spooktacular: A medley of "scary" classical music themes." The orchestra is particularly pleased to feature French Horn soloist, Mrs. Virginia Mautte during Concerto in E-flat, 3rd movement by Richard Strauss. The orchestra is also pleased to feature several vocal soloists, including Maria Ramirez on "Sing Your Own Song." The Lake Norman Orchestra will conclude their concert with the "lively" "Can Can" by French composer Georges Bizet. Mr. Samuel A. Kyzer is the "tall and witty" conductor of The Lake Norman Orchestra.

  • Super Sunday Symphony in Salisbury features the return of the Lake Norman Orchestra. Under the direction of conductor Mr. Samuel A. Kyzer, the group will present parts of two popular concertos, Broadway medleys, classical favorites, and a mix of pop classics. Concertmistress Mrs. Sarah Bamford will be the featured soloist on the 3rd movement of the Violin Concerto in D major by Beethoven, while Mrs. Virginia Mautte will be the soloist on the final movment of the Horn Concerto in E-flat major by Richard Strauss.
  • The Lake Norman Orchestra and Chamber Strings will present a free-admission concert at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius, NC on Sunday, March 30 at 6 PM. The 60-member all-volunteer full orchestra will present a wide variety of music. Classical fare will include "Bacchanale" by Saint-Saens, "William Tell Overture" by Rossini, and "Violin Concerto in D major, 3rd movement" by Beethoven. Sarah Bamford will be the featured soloist on this concerto piece. Songs from the Broadway stage include "The Impossible Dream," and selections from "West Side Story." Film music will include a medley of sounds from "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." The LKNO Chamber Strings will present pieces from Gustav Holst's "St. Paul Suite." The orchestra will also present several selections from pop music. Conductor Mr. Samuel A. Kyzer is completing his 4th year at the helm of The Lake Norman Orchestra.
  • The 50-member all-volunteer Lake Norman Orchestra returns to Laurel Gray Vineyards on Sunday, May 18, 2 PM to present a concert in a beautiful mountain setting. The orchestra, led by music director Samuel A. Kyzer, will present lots of classic pop favorites like "Journey's Greatest Hits," "The Empire Strikes Back Medley," "Motown Medley," "The Eagles on Tour," and lots of Beach music. This is the orchestra's 7th and final concert of the 2024-2025 season.

The 52-member all-volunteer full orchestra has been active in the Lake Norman area since 2002. This concert will feature music "from classical to classic." Classical adventures will include "Concerto for Horn in E-flat" by Richard Strauss and Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man." The orchestra enjoys re-creating music from films such as "Pirates of the Caribbean," "The Empire Strikes Back," and the "Star Trek" series. Classic pop selections will include "Best of the Beatles," "Journey's Greatest Hits," and lots of "beach music." Be prepared for a little "latin" and ""classic country," too.
