Ballantyne Home Explosion
On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, a home in Charlotte's Ballantyne Country Club neighborhood exploded, killing a woman and severely injuring her husband. Charlotte Fire Department officials said the likely cause of the explosion was a gas leak inside the home. Rania Karam, 58, who was listed in property records as the homeowner, was found dead in the rubble about seven hours after rescue and recovery operations began. Her husband, Jebran Kabram, a cardiologist who works in West Virginia, survived the explosion. Though wounded, he was able to call 911 and guide rescuers to his location in the collapsed home. The house, which was more than 6,000 square feet in size, was completely leveled in the blast. Some neighboring homes were damaged by debris, and people at work a couple of miles away reported feeling their office buildings shake.00000174-fa0c-de55-a17c-fe2d1d2a0000
