Building Our Regional Transportation System

CATS Blue Line train

Charlotte keeps growing – some might say outgrowing itself. And planners have been working on one of the key challenges posed by that growth:  transportation, specifically a transportation system. The Blue Line extension to the University area, tolls on I-77, proposed toll roads elsewhere and a streetcar are parts of the package. We meet with some planners and policy makers to hear more.

Ned Curran - chair of the North Carolina Board of Transportation.

Mary Newsom - associate director for Urban and Regional Affairs at the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute and a longtime local journalist.

Craig Lewis - principal with the international design consulting firm Stantec.

John M. Lewis Jr. - chief executive of Charlotte Transit System (CATS).
