Charlotte Talks: New York Times Media Critic On The TV Presidency Of Donald Trump

Television shaped Donald Trump and laid the groundwork for his presidency. New York Times media critic James Poniewozik's book, "Audience of One," examines the relationship between Trump and TV.

Presidents have been media figures for decades, but as with many things over the past three years, Donald Trump has taken it to a whole new level.

Trump is television, Poniewozik writes, describing him as "a cable-news channel in human form: loud, short of attention span, and addicted to conflict."

That symbiosis leads Poniewozik to view Trump as "the most influential character in the history of TV."

Poniewozik talks with guest host Erik Spanberg about the evolution of the medium and how it set the stage for the Trump presidency.
