The PGA Championship returns to Charlotte this week, bringing the spotlight back to the city and Quail Hollow Club. Charlotte is hosting its third marquee golf championship in a decade.
Since hosting the PGA Championship in 2017, Quail Hollow has undergone updates. Fans can expect a rideshare drop-off that will allow patrons to take an Uber or Lyft onto the property — and a pedestrian bridge allowing for safe access to the course for those walking, among other changes.
Championship Director Jason Soucy joins us to share an overview and discuss what it means to bring a major back to Charlotte.
Major storylines for the event include Rory McIlroy’s hot streak — fresh off his first Masters win. McIlroy hopes to secure his sixth major title at the same course where he previously secured four victories. Also, notable LIV Golf players, including Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, are also competing, adding intrigue and depth to the mix.
The PGA Championship is expected to draw 200,000 fans and generate more than $100 million in economic impact. Hotels across the city are expected to surpass 90% occupancy, and grounds tickets for Friday and Saturday are already sold out.
We dive into it all, with a guide to one of the biggest sporting weeks in Charlotte.
