It was no surprise when it was announced Tuesday that Charlotte is getting a Major League Soccer expansion team.

But elected officials at the announcement didn’t reveal details of how the city of Charlotte and owner David Tepper will spend $110 million in public money set aside for the team’s stadium, headquarters and even an entertainment district.

After nearly nine seasons, 76 wins and a Super Bowl appearance, the Ron Rivera era is over for the Carolina Panthers. Owner David Tepper fired Rivera, the head coach, on Tuesday, saying he "just thought it was time given the way things have gone the last two seasons."

The Carolina Panthers have fired head coach Ron Rivera, the team announced Tuesday. Secondary coach Perry Fewell will take over head coaching duties on an interim basis for the final four games of the season, with offensive coordinator Norv Turner shifting to special assistant to the head coach.

The Carolina Panthers are planning to have a bigger presence in South Carolina, according to reporting by the Post and Courier. The NFL franchise is reportedly planning to build a new business headquarters and a practice facility just over the state line, south of Charlotte, in York County.
