Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Police History Most organizations have highs and lows throughout their histories, especially when they've been around for over a century, and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is not exempt from that. Even with the more turbulent news of late, the department's nearly 150 year history is one where duty, adaptation to changes in technology and culture, and challenges posed by criminals are prominent throughout. We'll meet the author of a new book about the full history of the CMPD and hear about an accompanying exhibit coming up at the Charlotte Museum of History. Guests Ryan Sumner - Author, Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Police Leslie Kessler - Historian and Curator, Charlotte Museum of History Melissa Treadaway - Research and Planning division of CMPD Photos | See photos and artifacts from the CMPD in the early days Amazon | Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Police by Ryan Sumner Exhibit | Beneath the Badge: Policing in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County opens March 27th at the Charlotte Museum of History.
