Airport Taxi Contracts and the City Council

http://66.225.205.104/CT20110516.mp3

Airport Taxi Contracts and the City Council The City of Charlotte is trying to limit the number of taxi-cab companies that serve Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, awarding contracts to just a few companies in the region. According to city officials, this would make for an improved experience for travelers, because these companies are required to have credit card swipes, GPS, and have newer model vehicles. But taxi drivers not affiliated with those companies are upset because the contracts lock them out of lucrative airport fares, and may endanger individual jobs or even entire cab companies. Guest host Julie Rose and a panel including taxi drivers and owners will explore the issue and its possible outcomes. Guests Abdi Duale - Representative on the Passenger Vehicle for Hire Board at ITOOA, Independent Taxicab Owners and Operators Association Mayur Khandelwal - Vice President of Crown Cab Company in Charlotte Andy Dulin - City Council member Add and read comments
