The Native American Studies Center invites you to a special reception for the new exhibit, “By Way of Water: Reviving & Reimagining Catawba Art Forms,” showcasing the work of Catawba artists Aaron Baumgardner, Teresa Dunlap, DeLesslin George-Warren, and Alex Osborn. This exhibit features the timeless artistry of pottery and baskets to the bold expressions of digital photography, woodblock printing, and multimedia installations.

Cirque Us - Stories is a thoughtfully curated show for young audiences that flips through the pages of our troupe's favorite stories to bring you a touching, thrilling narrative about community and identity. Interweaving a collection of folktales, classic literature, children's stories, modern fiction, and more, this show jumps off the page with twists, flips, rewrites, and retellings of stories you'll love. The show features aerialists, jugglers, acrobats, contortionists, clowns, and more, all ready to fly off the shelf and straight to you!

The State of Black Health conference is where hundreds of community leaders and equity advocates from every background come to address themes and find solutions for the social and economic injustices that have marginalized Black communities and led to deep health disparities.

This year’s theme, A Call for Health Justice, is a summons for health equity advocates to present on the programs and initiatives that have helped move the needle toward improved health outcomes in our communities.

Within our Wellness and Chronic Disease Reduction, Institutional Reform, and Economic Advancement conference tracks, we offer stimulating panel discussions, engaging breakout sessions, and networking opportunities for attendees.

Our tour on Saturday, Sept. 27 from noon-2pm takes a look behind the scenes of the Center’s Special Collections, the W. Brent Burgin Archives, and the Fred “Henry” Shute Archaeology Lab, led by Assistant Curator Sharon Simmers-Norton, Director of Archives Logan Cocklin, and Archaeologist Chris Judge.

Tours are free, but registration is required; limit 15 people per tour.

Formed in 2007 by mere happenstance, Balsam Range came together during an informal kitchen jam session in the rural depths of Western North Carolina. Since its inception, Balsam Range has become one of the most decorated and award-winning acts in the wide world of bluegrass music, including the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) honors: "Entertainer of the Year" (2014, 2018), "Album of the Year" (2013, 2017), "Song of the Year" (2011, 2015), "Vocal Group of the Year" (2014, 2015), "Male Vocalist of the Year" (2014, 2018) and "Bass Player of the Year" (2018).

Right Angle Entertainment and Paul Couch are proud to present the national tour of Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol, a new musical featuring songs by Dolly Parton and book by David H. Bell, adapted by Bell, Curt Wollan and Paul T. Couch. Set in the 1930s in the Smoky Mountains, this incredibly heartwarming, unforgettable production and amazing cast imagines Ebenezer Scrooge as the owner of a mining company town, where his callous greed blinds him to the joys and gifts of the season.

As a Christmas Eve snowstorm approaches, Scrooge is visited by his deceased business partner and three ghosts who compel him to see life anew and discover that love is the greatest gift we have. Dickens' classic characters and Parton's one-of-a-kind songwriting expertise are certain to make this a holiday event you'll want to share with those you love.
