Novant Health released details about the 41 physicians leaving the health system. Doctors from Lakeside Family Physicians and Huntersville OB/GYN will be leaving Novant to join Tenessee based Holston Medical Group. Not all doctors from the practices will be leaving, some will remain with Novant.
It's not clear exactly which physicians will be leaving. But all “Novant Health Lakeside Primary Care” locations are not involved in this situation and are remaining with Novant Health Medical Group.
President of Novant Health Physician Network Dr. Pam Oliver said the doctors sent resignation letters in December and they have agreed to separate effective May 31.
Novant Health Chief Consumer Officer Jesse Cureton said, “This departure is somewhat unique for Novant Health. We haven’t had anything quite like this before. Every year there are physicians that leave. And we continue to grow every year. So we are adding physicians. And so we don’t anticipate that this is a reflection of anything that will continue within Novant Health.”
Novant Health has more than 900 doctors in the Charlotte market and more than 1,500 across the whole system. Cureton said patients will start to be notified about the doctors leaving through letters, emails and social media.
"These are physicians that have been with our organization for a number of years. We know them. We like them. We care for them," he said. "As much as we are disappointed and we were not expecting this movement, we are going to support the migration of the physicians and continue to support the best health care we can provide in the marketplace."
Updated: Tuesday, February 19 4:15 p.m. The post previously contained a list of of locations where the doctors leaving the health system would cotinue to practice. That list has been removed because the doctors and health system now say the doctors will no longer be practicing at any Novant locations.
