Mecklenburg County Public Health Director Dr. Raynard Washington is leaving Charlotte. Washington has been nominated to serve as New Jersey’s next health commissioner.

Mecklenburg County Health Director Raynard Washington will resign effective Tuesday. Washington joined the county in March 2020 and was promoted to health director in 2021. County officials said Kimberly Scot will serve as interim health director. Washington has been nominated to serve as New Jersey’s next health commissioner.

Kenny is a Maryland native who began his career in media as a sportswriter at Tuskegee University, covering SIAC sports working for the athletic department and as a sports correspondent for the Tuskegee Campus Digest. Following his time at Tuskegee, he was accepted to the NASCAR Diversity Internship Program as a Marketing Intern for The NASCAR Foundation in Daytona Beach, Florida in 2017.
