Time's Up For Black Farmers In Discrimination Settlement

This is the final day for black farmers to file a claim in a government settlement known as "Pigford II." Congress has set aside more than $1 billion to compensate black farmers who were unfairly denied loans and assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The U.S. government originally admitted to the discrimination and agreed to compensate victims in 1999, but thousands of farmers didn't learn of the settlement until it was too late. A second settlement was approved last year to accommodate those late filers. Today is their deadline to make a claim. Black farmers who qualify for the "Pigford II" settlement are expected to receive between $20,000 and $50,000. More information: https://www.blackfarmercase.com/
