Freezing Rain In Hickory Sunday

Freezing rain is expected in much of western North Carolina Sunday.   Ice storm warnings and winter storm warnings have been issued for much of the state north of I-40 and west of I-85. The warning includes Winston-Salem, and Greensboro. Temperatures were expected to drop to freezing Sunday morning as the rain starts, and up to a quarter-inch of ice could collect on trees and power lines.  There is a freezing rain advisory south of that area for places like Asheville, Hickory and Durham. Freezing rain is likely there, before temperatures rise back above freezing. In the Charlotte area, expect a cold rainy Sunday. And coming up Monday, more rain, with a high around 55.

SEMINOLES CRUSH DUKE IN ACC TITLE GAME

Saturday night's ACC football championship game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte saw top-ranked Florida State rout No. 20 Duke, 45 to 7. The win clinched Florida’s spot in the national championship game in January, probably against Auburn, which also won Saturday. Heisman Trophy favorite Jameis (JAYM'-ihs) Winston completed 19 of 32 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns as the Seminoles totaled 569 yards offense. Winston’s big night came two days after prosecutors decided not to press charges against him in a sexual assault case.

On the sports schedule today, the NFL’s Carolina Panthers will be in New Orleans for the Sunday night game. The Panthers have 9 wins and three losses and haven’t lost since October 6th. The Saints also are 9 and 3 and tied with the Panthers for 1st place in the NFC South Division. Whoever wins will be a game ahead with three games left in the season. Tonight’s game will be broadcast at 8:30pm on NBC.

They have not given a motive for the killing.  Gist's sister is Circuit Court Judge DeAndrea Benjamin, who is married to Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin.

SANFORD TALKS ABOUT IMMIGRATION

U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford of South Carolina is making good on a promise to have more discussions about immigration reform.   The 1st District congressman met with members of the Lowcountry Immigration Coalition in Beaufort last month and agreed to attend one of the group's town hall meetings. Now Sanford will attend a town hall Sunday on Hilton Head Island.   Sanford opposed a bill the U.S. Senate pasted in June to increase border security and create a 13-year wait for citizenship for the 11 million people in the national illegally.    Sanford said the cost is an important issue for him and told members of the group last month he would like to learn more about their concerns so he would attend their meeting.
