Death Of The Apostrophe?

We’ve all done it:  written a sentence and misplaced or just forgotten to use an apostrophe.  Take the word “its” for example.  If it has an apostrophe, "it's" is a contraction for “it is” or “it has.”  Well, there’s a movement of sorts to rid the English language of the apostrophe all together.  You can find out more at a site called Killtheapostrophe.com  We decided to find out more from UNC Chapel Hill English Professor and Linguist Connie Eble.  She says everything will be just fine if the apostrophe dies.

Marshall came to WFAE after graduating from Appalachian State University, where he worked at the campus radio station and earned a degree in communication. Outside of radio, he loves listening to music and going to see bands - preferably in small, dingy clubs.
