Charlotte-Mecklenburg police on Tuesday arrested one of their own officers on a drug-related charge. 37-year old Officer Jennifer Wolfe is charged with five felony counts of Obtaining Schedule II Controlled Substance (Opioids) by Fraud.
According to CMPD, Wolfe got fraudulent prescriptions for pain killers from an employee of a local dental practice, Danze Dentistry in Matthews. "I am disappointed and saddened that one of our officers is being charged with this serious offense," said CMPD Chief Kerr Putney. "Unfortunately, we are not immune from the growing opioid epidemic," the chief added.
Wolfe has been on the police force since April, 2011. Police say she was placed on paid administrative leave when the investigation started just over two weeks ago. Wolfe is now on unpaid leave.
CMPD says the investigation began when police were contacted by an employee of Danze Dentistry. Matthews police say 46-year old dental practice employee Roberta Porter was charged in the case and arrested last week. She faces 7 counts of controlled substance fraud and two felony drug trafficking counts.
