3-Year-Old Boy Found Alive After 2 Days

Craven County Sheriff's Office

Authorities Thursday night confirmed that a missing 3-year-old boy was found alive in good health near the home he disappeared from.

According to the FBI, Casey Hathaway was found around 50 yards into the woods by search and rescue crews in Craven County acting on a tip. The boy could be heard calling for his mother.

Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes says the boy was playing with two other children in his grandmother's backyard in Ernul on Tuesday but didn't come inside with them.

Hughes believes Casey had moved around before ending up where he was found, not far from the house from which he went missing Tuesday. Authorities had been concerned that Casey wasn't adequately dressed for the cold temperatures. He was found wearing his jacket, still zipped up.

Lynch says Casey is with his family and being evaluated at a hospital. His mother says he's doing well and has "already asked to watch Netflix."
