A CMPD officer is accused of serving alcohol to 1 and 6-year-old boys.
CMPD says 56-year-old Robert Milton is charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. Milton is a seven-year veteran of CMPD assigned to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Deputy Chief Gerald Smith says the children’s mother reported Milton to police.
“To say that his actions are disappointing – it’s really hard to search for another adjective – but his actions do not rise to the level and to the standards of this organization that has been tasked with the protecting and serving of the citizens of this community, especially the most vulnerable including children,” Smith said.
Smith says the children are brothers and that Milton is the father of the 1-year-old. He did not say how much alcohol or the type of alcohol he’s accused of serving them. Smith says the children are in good health.
Milton is on administrative leave without pay pending an internal investigation.
