New Charlotte HQ For Corning Optical Is Finished
Construction has finished on Corning Optical Communications' new headquarters in northwest Charlotte.
A spokesman for Corning Optical told The Charlotte Observer that the company plans to move into the new headquarters in the coming weeks. Corning Optical, a division of New York-based Corning Inc., announced in 2015 it planned to relocate its headquarters from Hickory to Charlotte. The company makes fiber optic cables and other equipment related to communications networks.
The company picked a spot off Interstate 485 for the $38 million project. The building is on a 17-acre site in Riverbend Village, at Brookshire Boulevard and Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.
The Charlotte headquarters could have up to 650 employees with an average salary of nearly $91,000, according to the Mecklenburg County Commission back when the initial announcement was made. The company plans to keep its manufacturing site in Hickory.
Developer Beacon Partners posted on social media earlier this month that the 182,170-square-foot building was complete.
According to Beacon's website, the site includes a café and fitness center for employees.
State and local incentives worth about $2.35 million helped bring Corning Optical's headquarters to Charlotte.
