A North Carolina university student has been arrested on charges of bringing guns on campus.

High Point University freshman Paul Steber was taken into custody on Tuesday. University security and High Point Police responded to reports from students that Steber was in possession of two firearms as well as ammunition.

The officers seized the firearms, and Steber was charged with two felony counts of weapons on campus or other educational property. He’s being held on a $2 million bond.

After further investigation, Steber was also charged with a third count of communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property. Bond for this charge was set at $1 million.

In a statement sent to the High Point University community Tuesday evening, school officials said there was no immediate threat and that the owner of the firearms had been removed from campus. The statement praised the students who initially reported the potential threat.

North Carolina law prohibits anyone from carrying a firearm, openly or concealed, at any public or private school, college or university.
