Three people were killed in two separate overnight shootings early Saturday.

Three people were killed in two separate overnight shootings in Charlotte in the early morning hours Saturday as the homicide total for 2019 rose to 95, police said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police was called at 2:46 a.m. to Sky House Apartments on North Church Street, where they found a man with a gunshot wound in the hallway of the building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 5:16 a.m., CMPD was called to the 2700 block of Lytham Drive in south Charlotte, where they found four people who had been shot. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and another died at Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center.

The victims in the south Charlotte case were identified as 40-year-old Janet Elizabeth Scronce and 39-year-old Furahn Karren Woods Morrow. Caldwell Cole Jr., 75, has been charged with the murders.

CMPD is continuing to investigate both crimes.

According to CMPD, the city has now had 95 homicides in 2019. That's the most since 129 people were killed in 1993.

Editor's note: This story originally said three people had been shot in the incident on Lytham Drive. CMPD issued a correction to its original news release Nov. 12.
