Police say two people were shot to death just minutes apart early Sunday in southwest Charlotte.

The first shooting, reported about 2 a.m., happened in the 500 block of Deanna Lane, which is near Nations Ford Road. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they found 32-year-old Ramon Antonio Alvarado-Cubas dead from a gunshot wound outside of an apartment building there.

The second shooting was reported about 15 minutes later two miles away in the 1900 block of Westinghouse Boulevard. There, police found 34-year-old James John Basil McKnight shot in the parking lot of The Trap, a restaurant and billiards. McKnight was taken to a hospital but died.

Police have not whether there's any connection between the cases.

The shootings are the ninth and 10th homicides reported in Charlotte this year.

The Trap is right next to another restaurant, La Poblanita, where Juan Velazquez Hernandez was shot to death on Feb. 5. Police said Hernandez was working for a company hired to fix kitchen equipment at the restaurant.

CMPD is asking anyone with information on the cases to call 704-432-8477.
