Three members of a Huntersville family were killed in a shooting Friday morning in a neighborhood east of downtown.

Huntersville police say officers and a SWAT team were call called to a house on ES Draper Drive, in the Vermillion neighborhood, about 5:30 a.m. When they entered, they found three people shot to death.

Police identified them as 44-year-old Joseph Cooper, 41-year-old Julie Cooper and 24-year-old Joseph Cooper Jr.

Huntersville Police spokeswoman Odette Saglimbeni said Friday afternoon the victims were a couple and their son. "Out of respect for the family, we are not releasing who the shooter was at this time," she said in an email.

She said police are still investigating to determine what led up to the shootings.

Saglimbeni said Friday morning there was no ongoing threat, and police are not looking for any suspects.

"At this time we do have three confirmed deceased parties inside the residence," she said. "There is no threat to the community. Schools are safe, this area is safe. But it is still a very active investigation. We do have detectives on scene."
