Democrats are turning up the pressure on Republican Jefferson Griffin to concede in the race for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Two recounts have shown Griffin losing to Democrat Allison Riggs by more than 700 votes, but Griffin has since asked state election officials to throw out more than 60,000 votes because of possible irregularities.
Among the Democrats calling on Griffin to concede is North Carolina Gov.-elect Josh Stein, who said Griffin was attempting to “reshape the electorate to his liking.”
The North Carolina Republican Party has maintained Griffin is within his right to pursue legal remedies and ensure the integrity of the election.
