The budget stalemate in Raleigh continues as Republicans and Democrats at the North Carolina General Assembly spar over the state budget. After Governor Cooper’s veto last month, GOP leaders are working to gain votes to override it and leaders are haggling over Medicaid expansion. Already two weeks into the fiscal year, could a compromise be near?
Major soccer news this week has Charlotte fans buzzing, hoping the city will score some points with Major League Soccer officials to eventually bring an MLS team to town. The city landed a deal to host a series of international matches over the next five years. Plus, Charlotte will host a two-day fan fest.
An attempted robbery at a Steak 'n Shake restaurant turns violent, adding another victim to the city’s already soaring homicide count. Only halfway through the year, Charlotte has already exceeded the number of homicides at this point in 2018.
The latest crime statics are out for Charlotte and homicides aren’t the only violent crimes on the rise. According to CMPD, aggravated assault, rape, and robbery are up over the same period last year.
