The chairperson of Gastonia-based CaroMont Health has resigned after making Facebook posts in which he called stay-at-home orders “tyranny” and offered COVID-19 conspiracy theories.
Donnie Loftis resigned on Monday, less than a week after media outlets began questioning the posts. The Gaston County hospital system has urged residents to stay home amid the outbreak.
In a statement, CaroMont said it appreciated Loftis’s “eight years of loyal service.” Loftis is also a former Gatson County commissioner.
