Part 2
Big budget cuts five years ago brought soul-searching at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. There was talk of closing smaller suburban and neighborhood branches and cutting hours and programs. A Future of the Library Task Force recommended programming changes and a way to save the small branches. In 2012, former ASC head Lee Keesler took over as library CEO, and began developing a new strategic plan. The library seems to be back on a solid footing again, and has been undertaking major renovations. The latest announcement calls for an $8 million overhaul at the Morrison branch, at Southpark.
