Charlotte Talks: Tommy Tomlinson Addresses 'The Elephant In The Room'

Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019

You know his writing, and have gotten to know his voice. Now, Tommy Tomlinson shares a new side of himself as he writes about a lifelong struggle with weight.

This show originally aired Jan. 14.

For decades, Tommy Tomlinson's byline has been a familiar one for Charlotteans, and over the past year listeners have been getting to know his voice as host of WFAE's "SouthBound" podcast.

It’s the latest chapter in an accomplished career that has led to his being a Pulitzer Prize finalist and a Nieman Fellow at Harvard. He’s written about everything from music to sports, but now he’s tackling his toughest subject yet: his weight.

For his first book, The Elephant in the Room: One Fat Man’s Quest To Get Smaller in a  Growing America, Tomlinson bares the physical and emotional struggles he and millions of Americans face each day.

Mike Collins talks with Tommy Tomlinson about "the biggest story of (his) life."
