Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly passed two amendments. One would lower the maximum income tax rate and the other requires voter I.D. when voting by mail. This all comes as the GOP, which has a legislative supermajority, overrode a veto of a bill that takes power away from Democratic Gov.-elect Josh Stein.
In Charlotte, the skies are changing. Flights leaving Charlotte Douglas International Airport will use more paths to disperse noise over a wider area. The goal is to expand the flight paths from eight to 27. Meanwhile, some on City Council are criticizing the plan for a lack of transparency.
About a month after Election Day, a recount shows Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs leads Republican Jefferson Griffin by 734 votes in the race for a state Supreme Court seat. That’s out of more than five million votes cast. Griffin subsequently requested a hand recount.
And snow hit the Charlotte area this week. It’s the first time the city has seen snow in about three years. The weather caused some poor road conditions and impacted schools across the region.
