Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police gave safety tips today to residents who are heading out on New Year’s Eve.
In an effort to create a more controlled environment uptown, New Year’s festivities held by the city will be at Truist Field this year.
Police are advising residents to be aware of their surroundings, be careful when using rideshares and keep expensive items out of sight in your vehicles. While the party at the Charlotte Knights stadium will be a popular spot, CMPD Lieutenant Crystal Fletcher said additional police presence will be seen in other locations as well.

"That will not be the only folks that are attending," Fletcher said. "There will be people at Romare Beard and Park and throughout other areas close by, so that's why we will have a presence in all of those key areas."
She also said parents should supervise their children at all times.
During the last New Year’s celebration in uptown, five people were shot at Romare Bearden Park. All survived, but the shooting prompted calls to improve public safety uptown.
