Mecklenburg County Commissioners holding public hearing on 2026 budget

Mecklenburg County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the new budget tonight. Last week, County Manager Denna Diorio presented her budget recommendations for the last time before retiring this summer. It accepts Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools budget request of roughly $700 million.

Mecklenburg County is one of a handful of counties in the state that don’t receive a teacher pay supplement. Diorio joined Charlotte Talks yesterday and said she believes the state needs to give the county more support. Tonight’s public hearing starts at 6.
