The Sea Life Charlotte-Concord Aquarium in the Concord Mills Mall is now open to the public. A couple hundred people gathered for the opening ceremonies on Thursday morning, including nine-year-old Aditi Sengupta. She's been to lots of larger aquariums – including the Georgia aquarium – but she's really excited about Sea Life.
"This one I think it's special because I think it's easy for kids to see how important it is to protect animals," Sengupta says. "It shows all this stuff in an interesting way -- there's some videos, there's some play stations and all of them are educational, which is really cool."
The construction of the $10 million aquarium began last summer. The aquarium includes 5,000 sea creatures including sharks and rays, swimming in over 150,000 gallons of water. The last delivery of jellyfish, seahorses and a Giant Pacific octopus arrived Wednesday morning from the Florida Keys.
