Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a suspect in one of five killings over Labor Day weekend.
Police charged Quincy Dushawn McWaine, 18, of Charlotte, with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the fatal shooting of Elias Izagirre Perez, 30.
Perez was robbed and fatally shot Sept. 6 in the 1100 block of Glenfiddich Drive, off The Plaza in east Charlotte.
Police are not saying what evidence led to McWaine’s arrest on Tuesday.
McWaine was already in jail on unrelated charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and conspiracy breaking and entering a building to commit a larceny, jail records show.
Police encourage anyone with information about the case to call 704-432-TIPS (8477) and speak to a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
Police have not said the shooting was related to other killings over Labor Day weekend.
Among the victims was 7-year-old Kevin Antonio Calderon Rodas, who was shot to death as he and relatives gathered to celebrate a cousin’s birthday party in a fairly quiet neighborhood.
Others killed that weekend were Laquanta Franchez Young, 30; James Taylor, 23; and Dominique Wheeler, 25. Twelve people total were shot during one of the deadliest weekends in Charlotte in recent memory.
