Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating the shooting death of a man that occurred early Sunday morning in a motel in northeast Charlotte.

CMPD says officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service around 3 a.m. at the Holiday Motel on North Tryon Street. When they arrived, officers found a man with a gunshot wound inside one of the motel rooms. The man, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the shooting occurred after an argument inside the motel room. According to CMPD, there were several people inside the room when the argument occurred. The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, left the room after the argument, police say, only to return, knock on the door and shoot the victim when he opened it.

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting occurred.
