Sheriff's Office To Hold Job Fair For Inmates

Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden
LOGAN CYRUS

Sheriff Garry McFadden is planning a job fair for inmates in the Mecklenburg County Detention Center as a way to prepare them for re-entry into the Charlotte community.

A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office said Friday morning that the event will take place in March and help inmates develop skills such as resume writing and interviewing.

One unnamed employer has volunteered and the office is now asking for more to become involved.

McFadden was sworn in as sheriff in December of 2018. In the time since, he has put an end to the controversial 287(g) program, done away with the jail's practice of placing teenage inmates in solitary confinement and restored in-person visits at Mecklenburg County jails.
