A man visiting from New York suffered serious injuries Friday morning after losing his footing and falling 70 feet down Crowders Mountain.

Gastonia firefighters carried Navas Delcid hundreds of feet before he could be transported off the mountain. He was in stable condition hours later, and transferred to another hospital in Charlotte.

His boyfriend, Hector Calix, told The Gaston Gazette that he had just taken Delcid's photograph when Delcid lost his balance.

Calix says they live on Long Island and had stopped to hike while returning home from Miami. He says a woman hiking had helped him stay calm.
