Police say a man was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon just west of uptown Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say officers responding to a call found 20-year-old A'mari McCaskill on West Trade Street near Interstate 77 about 4:30 p.m. McCaskill was taken to a hospital but later died.

As of early Wednesday, no arrests had been reported, and police had not said what led to the shooting.

There have been more than 70 homicides this year compared to 58 in all of 2018.

Police say the investigation into Tuesday's slaying is still in its early stages, and they ask anyone with information on the case to call 704-432-8477.
