Police say a child in Charlotte died Saturday night after accidentally shooting himself with an unsecured gun.

The 2-year-old child's father, 24-year-old Antonio Cureton, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, failure to secure a firearm to protect a minor, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, someone called 911 to report a shooting in the 5500 block of Regan Drive, near West Sugar Creek Road and Interstate 85, just after 10 p.m. When officers arrived, they found 2-year-old Amor Cureton severely wounded. Paramedics rushed the child to a hospital where he died.

Family members were present when the gun was fired, and CMPD said officers are "not currently looking for any additional suspects."

CMPD Maj. Ryan Butler, speaking to WSOC, called the death "a tragedy for Charlotte."

It's the second time in a week a child was hurt after finding a gun.

On Wednesday, another 2-year-old found an unsecured gun at a family friend's house on Camp Greene Street and accidentally shot himself, CMPD said. The toddler had serious injuries but was in stable condition at a hospital as of Thursday morning. Police charged 25-year-old Devonte Warren with failure to secure a firearm to protect a minor in that case.
