  • Matthews Playhouse invites audiences to explore the magical world of Willy Wonka’s iconic chocolate factory this February with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved 1964 novel. This enchanting production will come to life on stage February 21-March 2, 2025 at the Fullwood Theatre in Matthews, NC, offering a sweet and unforgettable adventure for the entire family.

    Featuring vibrant characters, whimsical sets, dazzling costumes, and lively choreography performed by some of Charlotte’s most talented actors, this musical is the perfect recipe for winter family fun.     **The 2 p.m. performance on March 1, 2025 will be a Sensory Friendly show. This performance will accommodate families with children with sensory sensitivities, on the autism spectrum, and/or with a cognitive or developmental disability while keeping the spirit and the integrity of the production intact.
  • Charlotte Quilters’ Guild Hosts 2025 Carolina Lily Quilt Show
    CHARLOTTE, NC—The 2025 Carolina Lily Quilt Show will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Park Expo and Conference Center. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students with no charge for children ages 10 and under.
    The show will feature more than 200 judged quilts, a craft market with local and regional vendors offering fabric and other quilting-related goods, a boutique selling hand-crafted gift items made by Guild members, and a raffle with multiple prizes. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
    The Charlotte Quilters’ Guild, formed 46 years ago by eight women, now has more than 150 members who meet regularly in person and by video. The mission of the guild is to promote the art and craft of quilting through fellowship, education, and outreach. In addition, each year members volunteer their time and talents to make hundreds of donated quilts for hospitalized infants and children and for adult cancer patients. The Guild also distributes patriotic quilts to wounded veterans through its “Quilt for Soldiers” program.
    Membership information and application forms to join the Guild will be available at the Show.

We’re all capable of understanding this for ourselves, of genuinely feeling infinite, ever-present Love, which is God, and helping others do the same.
  • The Charlotte Symphony and Queens University present Romantic Expressions. Join the Charlotte Symphony at Queens University of Charlotte’s Gambrell Center for an evening of beloved masterworks interwoven with poetry celebrating the theme of love. Students from Queens will bring the music to life with poignant readings of their original works paired with lush melodies from the Romantic era and early 20th century.
  • Every person has their own story of love, hardship, joy, and the memories that make us. This concert explores the queer experience through choral art songs — poems set to music for choirs. Featuring works exclusively by queer poets and composers, this program will celebrate the full spectrum of queer identities, from resilience to love.

  • Hearts for Hope, taking place on March 1, 2025, is a fundraising gala, benefitting Families Forward Charlotte, a 501(c)3 non-profit committed to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty that makes upward mobility too difficult for too many families in our community. The evening will include live entertainment from Split Second Sound, drinks, dinner, a live and silent auction, and a special program featuring Families Forward Charlotte leaders and a program participant.

    Currently, there are 45,000 children in Charlotte living in families experiencing poverty. This annual fundraiser is one of the ways that Families Forward Charlotte raises money to combat generational poverty by providing individualized mentoring, educational opportunities, and essential support.
  • The State of Black Health conference is where hundreds of community leaders and equity advocates from every background come to address themes and find solutions for the social and economic injustices that have marginalized Black communities and led to deep health disparities.

    This year’s theme, A Call for Health Justice, is a summons for health equity advocates to present on the programs and initiatives that have helped move the needle toward improved health outcomes in our communities.

    Within our Wellness and Chronic Disease Reduction, Institutional Reform, and Economic Advancement conference tracks, we offer stimulating panel discussions, engaging breakout sessions, and networking opportunities for attendees.

    FRIENDS OF WEST MECK ADVISORY BOARD ANNOUNCES 5th ANNUAL HIGH FIVE POUR - FUTURE READY FUNDRAISER

    [CHARLOTTE, N.C.] — The Friends of West Meck (FoWM) is thrilled to announce its annual “Future Ready” fundraiser event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 5-9 PM. This eagerly awaited event aims to raise monetary capital and expand social capital for the Hospitality and Tourism students at West Mecklenburg High School.

    As a 501(c)3 organization serving in an advisory capacity, FoWM is committed to ensuring that students at West Mecklenburg Academy are well-prepared for various careers within the hospitality and tourism industries.

    This year’s ‘High Five Pour Bourbon & Whiskey Tasting’ will feature curated sampling flights, a silent auction, and a brief program highlighting student achievements. With 75-100 influential guests from Charlotte’s philanthropic and hospitality communities, this is a prime opportunity for brand recognition and community impact. The primary goal of the “Future Ready Fundraiser” is to raise $10,000 in support of West Mecklenburg High School students for experiential and educational opportunities.

    The event is set to take place at The Union at Station West, located at 919 Berryhill Road #Suite 105, Charlotte, NC 28208. We will be accepting in-kind donation requests as well in the form of bourbon and whiskey for guest sampling, charcuterie board items, monetary donations, catered items/desserts, and silent auction items.     Friends of West Meck (FoWM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the educational and career development needs of students at West Mecklenburg High School. The Friends of West Meck supports one of Charlotte’s under-resourced, Title I high schools. The FoWM engages students in real-world, work-based learning opportunities to strengthen their content understanding and prepare students for careers in the hospitality and tourism pathway. The board also provides supplemental opportunities to reinforce learning objectives focused on the Career Technical Education continuum of career awareness, exploration, and preparation.
