More fallout continues from a schism on Charlotte City Council following text messages sent between former Council Member Tariq Bokhari and CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings.
At a council meeting this week, Mayor Vi Lyles stressed the importance of outreach among council members to improve relationships. All of this comes in the wake of a closed-session to discuss a reported settlement with Jennings that divided the council and led to dueling allegations in the media last week.
CMS Board of Education members are speaking out after ICE detained a man near Charlotte East Language Academy this week while driving a child to school. Board Chair Stephanie Sneed said the incident has led to “real fear, anxiety and confusion.” ICE detained the man about a half-mile from the school, but several members of the school community said they witnessed the incident during drop-off.
After six months of legal disputes and recounts, Allison Riggs has been sworn into her seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court. This comes after Jefferson Griffin conceded the election last week, following a ruling by a federal district judge which halted the Republican’s months-long challenge. While she didn’t mention Griffin by name, Riggs condemned what she called “efforts to undermine our rights and our democracy.”
And the PGA Championship comes to Charlotte this weekend. Around 200,000 fans are expected to make their way through Quail Hollow Club for golf’s second major championship of the year. We discuss the economic impact on the region and what role the weather may play.
