Doctors Group Leaving Atrium Changes Its Name
The group of nearly 90 doctors leaving Atrium Health is rebranding itself as the Tryon Medical Partners. Formerly part of the Mecklenburg Medical Group, Tryon Medical Partners split with Atrium after it sued the hospital network in a challenge to Atrium's non-compete agreements so its doctors could practice independently.
Shortly after the lawsuit was filed, Atrium said it wouldn't challenge the group's decision. Atrium also says the company will end its contracts with the doctors Sept. 1. Tryon Medical Partners — which includes general practitioners, dermatologists, endocrinologists and various other specialists — says it will start seeing patients Sept. 4.
Dr. Dale Owen, a cardiologist and head of the group, says legal and logistical details with Atrium are still being ironed out.
The group hasn't yet announced a location for its new practice. Tryon Medical Partners launched a new website which includes an FAQ and prompts patients to subscribe to e-mails to be kept up to date.
