Revaluation Town Hall Meetings

Persistent complaints about the 2011 property revaluation in Mecklenburg County enters a new phase this week. A private auditor, hired by the county to investigate the revaluation process, will hold a series of six public meetings. The first is Monday night in Matthews.

“This whole process is only going to work well if citizens come forward and let us know what the concerns are,” says Emmett Curl of Pearson’s Appraisal Service, the company conducting the audit.

People will have 3 minutes to talk about their own property revaluation concerns. This is not an opportunity to appeal that revaluation.

Tomorrow night, the audit goes to Cornelius. Vocal opposition in that community led to a  county-wide demand for the investigation.

After the public meetings, appraisers will review the revaluation data from a random sampling of 200 neighborhoods in the county. Additional scrutiny will go to neighborhoods that saw significant property value changes, both up and down.

Preliminary findings of the audit will be presented in another series of public meetings this fall.
