UNC Charlotte's football team is gaining momentum but fans can't help but think something is missing. The school recently announced plans to build a marching band by 2015.
If you've been to a recent football game at UNC Charlotte's new football stadium, you probably got a good dose of the 25-member drum line.
They've worked with the cheerleaders to keep the energy going at home games, but UNC Charlotte Department of Music interim chair Jay Grymes says he felt like something was missing.
"As a football fan myself and of course as a musician, I do miss having the live band playing there all the time," Grymes says. "It's been nice to have the drum-line, they provided a lot of excitement but I think adding a full band will really complete the game day experience."
Now that the 49ers football team is up and running, the university is ready to hire a marching band director and construct a building to house the band's offices and storage.
The 150-member band will perform at home games and include a color guard.
