Police in Charlotte have charged a 20-year-old woman with the murder of her infant daughter.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers responded to a call for service at a home in north Charlotte and found 7-month-old Jade Williams unresponsive. The Charlotte Fire Department and medic tried to save the infant, who was transported to the hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
Police transported the mother, Raeonna Watson, to police headquarters to be interviewed. She was then arrested and charged with murder, police say. No further details of the incident have been released. Watson is in custody at the Mecklenburg County jail.
Police are counting it as the 12th homicide in Charlotte this year. That’s double the number of homicides at this time last year. A CMPD spokesperson says of this year’s 12 homicides, 11 have been the result of gunfire
