Central Piedmont Community College says there was a fire on its Central Campus Friday morning.

The Charlotte Fire Department said 26 firefighters were needed to control a fire at Memorial Stadium on Friday morning.

The fire occurred at a 20-foot by 40-foot building on Armory Drive, Charlotte Fire Department said -- the stadium's old press box -- and was declared under control within 18 minutes.

Mecklenburg County's Twitter account said a contractor hit a live wire while tearing down an old press box, sparking the fire.

The 17,000-seat Memorial Stadium originally opened in 1936 and Mecklenburg County began a $32 million renovation of the stadium in September.
