Events are planned across the Charlotte region in honor of the Veterans Day holiday this Monday, Nov. 11.

While some locales, including Charlotte, hosted their tributes earlier in the weekend, most local towns and cities are holding celebrations on the actual holiday, which marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918.

Interested in attending some of the parades or tributes? Here's what's happening across our area.

MOORESVILLE

The town of Mooresville will hold a Veterans Day parade on Main Street beginning at 1 p.m. Monday. The town will close down four blocks of Main Street between McLelland Avenue and Institute Avenue beginning at 12 p.m. for the parade.

The parade will be preceded by a ceremony at Glenwood Park at 11 a.m. Additional tributes will take place at Richard's Coffee Shop and Living Military Museum on Main Street throughout the day.

HUNTERSVILLE

Huntersville residents are invited to a Veterans Day parade and ceremony in the town's center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and run along Old Statesville Road from Maxwell Avenue to Hunterville-Concord Road and on Huntersville-Concord between Town Hall and Veterans Park.

Afterward, the town will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. at Veterans Park, followed by live music, a food truck rally and card-making for veterans. The town's Parks and Recreation Department is also looking for photos from local residents for the town's Wall of Honor.

GASTONIA

The city of Gastonia will host a Veterans Day parade Monday, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and run from the intersection of Broad Street and Main Avenue through the city's downtown, and end on Second Avenue in front of Memorial Hall. A brief ceremony at Memorial Hall will follow the parade.

MATTHEWS

The American Legion Post 235 is hosting several events throughout the day Monday in Matthews, beginning with a sunrise service at Old Matthews Cemetery at 7 a.m., followed by a Veteran's Day ceremony 11 a.m. at Stumptown Park.

In the afternoon, the group will host a Veterans Appreciation Lunch from noon to 1 p.m. at the Levine Senior Center, and finish the day with a hot dog fundraiser at Seaboard Brewing, Taproom, and Wine Bar from 1-4 p.m.

CORNELIUS

Cornelius residents are invited to attend a town-sponsored Veterans Day ceremony on the Town Hall lawn beginning at 11 a.m. Monday. The program will include welcoming remarks from the mayor, a 21-gun salute and patriotic performances.

LINCOLNTON

The city of Lincolnton will host a Veterans Day parade in the city's downtown beginning at 11 a.m. Monday. The parade will process down East Main Street from Laurel to East Court Square, followed by a brief ceremony at the Veterans Monument.

STATESVILLE

Mitchell Community College will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place on the Circle at Statesville's campus.
