CMPD Chief Kerr Putney talks about our rising violent crime rate and preparations for the GOP Convention and more.
Violent crime in Charlotte just keeps rising. The city experienced 107 homicides in 2019, the highest number in a single year since 1993. CMPD has identified some “hot spots” for violent crime and Chief Kerr Putney has said his department is working to end the “cycle of violence.”
We’ll sit down with Chief Putney to hear his approach to the crime problem. We’ll also discuss preparations for the Republican National Convention, the kerfuffle over his retirement plans, and difficulties the department is having filling officer vacancies.
