SouthBound: Mitch Landrieu On The South's Racial Divide, And How To Bridge It

Mitch Landrieu
Mitch Landrieu
Mitch Landrieu founded the E Pluribus Unum Fund after leaving the office of mayor of New Orleans.

Mitch Landrieu comes from one of the South’s most storied political families.

His dad, Moon Landrieu, was mayor of New Orleans for 28 years. His sister, Mary, was a U.S. Senator. Mitch was lieutenant governor of Louisiana and then mayor of New Orleans from 2010 to 2018. After leaving office he founded the E Pluribus UnumFund to study issues involving race in the South.

He spent the past year traveling around the South as part of conversations in 28 communities involving segregation, equity, violence and other issues. The report that came out of that work is called “Divided By Design.” I talked with Landrieu about his report, and also about President Donald Trump’s recent comments comparing the impeachment process against him to a lynching.

Let's keep the conversation going. Who do you want to hear from next on the SouthBound podcast?
