Charlotte Talks Local News Roundup: Veto For HB 370; Refund Possible For NC Taxpayers; Early Voting

Friday, August 23, 2019

Could there be a fall tax refund in your future?  We look at that and at a bill that would force sheriffs to cooperate with ICE.  It passed.  The Governor vetoed it.  And early voting is underway. Those stories and more.

A bill that required sheriffs to detain inmates on behalf of ICE passed the North Carolina house this week, and was swiftly vetoed by Governor Cooper. We’ll go through the details.

You might be getting a tax refund this fall if the legislature decides to turn back a $900 million surplus.

Early voting started this week in Mecklenburg County. A special election for the 9th Congressional District between Dan McCready and Dan Bishop is on the ballot, as well as several local primaries.

The family of Danquirs Franklin, the man shot by a CMPD officer earlier this year, responds to the DA’s decision not to charge the officer involved in the shooting.

And, classes start for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools on Monday. Is the district ready? We’ll have an update on education news.
