The "CLT" abbreviation for Charlotte is placed over the Major League Soccer logo.

The city of Charlotte released a letter Wednesday that Mayor Vi Lyles wrote to MLS Commissioner Don Garber in November. In that letter, Lyles said the city is "excited" to welcome MLS to the city.

The letter then lists what the city is prepared to do, including spending $110 million in tourism taxes to renovate Bank of America Stadium. Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper will own the new Charlotte MLS team.

The letter also states that the soccer team's headquarters and training facility will be at the Eastland Mall site in east Charlotte.

Here's the list of trademarks filed:

  • Charlotte FC (for football club)
  • Charlotte Crown FC
  • Charlotte Fortune FC
  • Charlotte Monarchs FC
  • Charlotte Athletic FC
  • Charlotte Town FC
  • Carolina Gliders FC
  • All Carolina FC

The filings were made by DT Soccer LLC, an affiliate of the Carolina Panthers. Steve Argeris, the Panthers' vice president and general counsel, is listed as the contact.
The potential names have not yet been assigned for review by the trademark office. A notice on the filings says that could come within three months.
