Long-term residents of hotels and motels who have lost their jobs amid the coronavirus pandemic face a weekly struggle to pay the rent. Hotel managers who want their money are using a variety of tactics to try and collect.  Attorney General Josh Stein warns some of those may be illegal.

There are more than 2,000 lawsuits by cities and counties against the manufacturers and distributors of opioids. There are more than 15,000 sexual assault evidence collection kits in North Carolina that have yet to be tested, according to the numbers compiled by the Department of Justice and made available by Attorney General Josh Stein’s office and the state crime lab.

Duke Energy says it will pass along to customers some of the savings from new federal tax cuts that took effect Jan. 1.  In filings with utilities regulators in the Carolinas, Florida and Kentucky, the company says federal tax windfalls will go to reducing bills and offsetting future rate increases.
